States-at-a-Glance 2000
Sources
Statistics offer only one perspective of a state's responses to the maltreatment of children. Alone statistics cannot depict the adequacy of a state's efforts. There are many differences in state laws, policies, practice, and definitions that make data collection and careful review essential to interpret these data. Comparisons based exclusively on these data cannot be made and should not be used to judge the effectiveness of one state versus another.
National child welfare data are approximately two years behind the current year, but with new federal reporting requirements and State Automated Child Welfare Information Systems more timely data will become available.
