March 15, 2005, Washington, DC -- The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) has partnered with eBay to auction an assortment of items with all proceeds going to CWLA's Children's Memorial Flag initiative, which raises awareness about the need to eliminate violence against children.
Bids will begin April 15 at 3:00 p.m. EDT, and run through April 22 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. Items up for auction include:
- an original 1994 Seinfeld script, signed by Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards, and Jason Alexander;
- a basketball signed by Alonzo Mourning;
- a signed photo of Baltimore Orioles player Miguel Tejada;
- premium DC United tickets and fan pack;
- spa certificates, yoga passes, and gym memberships; and
- a Sharper Image 11-in-1 survival lantern.
The auction, conducted through eBay's charitable giving arm Missionfish, will raise critical funds for programs and services to support the nearly 3 million children who are currently being abused and neglected each year in this country. Three children die each day from abuse or neglect; nine children are killed by guns. To place your bid, visit http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewUserPage&userid=childwelfareleague. About the Children's Memorial Flag initiative:
As part of ongoing initiatives during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, CWLA has set aside the fourth Friday in April as Children's Memorial Flag Day. The centerpiece of the initiative is a red flag depicting blue, paper-doll-like figures of children holding hands. In the center, the white chalk outline of a missing child symbolizes the thousands of children lost to violence. On April 22, 2005, every state will display the flag in some way, and every governor will issue a proclamation pledging to end preventable child deaths. For more information about the flag and to access promotional materials, visit www.cwla.org/advocacy/memorialflag.htm or email flag@cwla.org.
