CWLA Launches 2002 National Adoption Awareness Month Campaign
Washington, DC - November is National Adoption Awareness Month. According to the National Center for State Courts, approximately 2% of all U.S. children are adopted. However, across the country, there remain tens of thousands of children and teens awaiting a permanent home in a loving family. The children are all ages and races, but have one thing in common - they don't have parents and homes to call their own.
The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) asks that you consider running news stories and features in your community about the challenges facing children in need of families.
Please contact us if you are interested in writing about or producing television and radio public affairs or news programming on children in need of adoption in your community. We have adoption experts and professionals available to talk with you. We have developed PSA scripts for broadcast and a column by our President and CEO offering tips for a successful adoption. There is also a great deal of information available on our web site www.cwla.org/programs/adoption.
In conjunction with these efforts, CWLA is sponsoring a national adoption training conference November 5-8 at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida Marina Marriott. The conference will focus on efforts to place more than 131,000 thousand children awaiting adoption in the United States. Sessions include topics covering all facets of adoption today, including special needs adoption, domestic (private infant agency) adoption, open records, and intercountry adoption.
CWLA has a long history of supporting children and families through all phases of the adoption process. Established in 1920, the Child Welfare League of America is the nation's oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization. Headquartered in Washington, DC, CWLA strives to advance sound public policy on behalf of the more than three million abused, neglected and vulnerable children served by its more than 1,185 public and private member agencies.
