A briefing hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine focused on the report on Reducing Intergenerational Poverty, as well as the evidence-based policies and programs to address racial disparities.
The presence of racial disparities in the intergenerational persistence of low-income status was highlighted with key statistics. 46% of Native Americans and 37% of Black Americans remain low income, while 17% of Asians and 29% of Whites remain low income. Thirteen policy and program ideas supported by direct evidence were identified, with specific focus on education policies and programs, neighborhood and crime policies and programs, child and maternal health policies and programs, and family income, employment, and wealth policies and programs.
